Exotic Pet Medicine and Surgery
Animal and Bird VMC offers veterinary services for gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, and other exotic pets. Like dogs and cats, exotic pets need routine veterinary care to stay healthy. Our veterinarians are available to provide medical advice and treatment for your exotic pet.
Our veterinarians welcome the opportunity to get to know your special companion. We provide veterinary care for the following types of exotic pets:
- Guinea pigs
Proper housing, nutrition, and daily care are essential to keeping exotic pets healthy and happy. Many exotic pets have specific nutritional requirements and require special care. We can create a wellness plan, including regular examinations, that addresses your pets specific health requirements.
You should seek veterinary attention if your pet stops eating, appears quieter than normal, exhibits discharge from the eyes or nose, and/or develops a lump on its body. Teeth grow continuously in small animals and often require special attention. We often see the harmful effects that occur in these animals due to improper nutrition and care.
Please talk to one of our veterinarians on how to properly feed your pet as most of these diseases can be prevented with a fundamental knowledge of their nutritional requirements. While exotic pets generally do not require vaccinations, regular veterinary check-ups are important. Avoid undetected diseases and complications with regular wellness care.
